about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Rick Perry will never be convicted of the offense he is charged with, but there is no doubt that this will seal his fate in the minds of low information voters, as a potential Presidential candidate who was arrested for wrong doing as Governor.

I'm a high information voter, and I wouldn't vote for the man because he is a low information Republican Governor who allows the Republican Party to dictate to him how his state is run.

Z-man wrote: "That drunk out of control sow of a DA is truly pathetic. This whole thing is bogus."

Is it really bogus? Let's examine the facts;

Rosemary Lehmberg was elected to do her job.

There is no evidence that Rosemary Lehmberg had failed at any time to do her elected job.

Rosemary Lehmberg was caught drinking and driving. It was first offense. Yeah it was bad.

Rosemary Lehmberg withdrew from her candidacy for re-election.

That wasn't good enough for the Governor. He wanted Rosemary Lehmberg to resign her office immediately, which she refused to do.

Rick Perry vetoed $7.5 million for the state public integrity unit, which investigates wrongdoing by elected officials and is run by the Travis County district attorney's office.

Travis County, Texas is right in the heart of the largest Republican stronghold in the state, and yet a left-leaning watchdog group was able to successfully file and ethics complaint, which resulted in an indictment handed down against Rick Perry.

Did Rick Perry overstep his authority as Governor? He's certainly guilty of imposing his morality on another duly elected official who merely wanted to finish out the term she was elected to and then would have quietly rode off into the sunset.

Whichever way this plays out, Rick Perry will be wasting his time to run for President. He was so far down in the polls before this case began that it will not matter what he does or whether he is exonerated.

Rick Perry will never be President.

That is good. We have had enough former Texas governors as POTUS to last me a life time. He is popular as governor with a high percent of Texans. The charge appears to be politically motivated since it is reported that his action is within the state of Texas constitutional authority, I don't know or care. I do know it is not difficult to get past a grand jury where there are no lawyers presenting for the defendant while prosecution seeks an indictment.

It seems the obnoxious drunk DA would have been so humiliated she would have resigned. She is like many in office that are drunk on the power and prestige of a good paying cushy government job and can't stand the thought of losing it. e.g. See U.S. congress.

He would not be good but no worse than our current domestic policy of make a change and hope (hope and change) and a foreign policy of change and hope for good luck. Hope and change is not an effective strategy. It is like an investor that buys and hopes which is also a strategy that seldom works.

Be that as it may, Rick Perry must not be all that popular after all, for the Travis County Courthouse, where he was booked the other day, is less than two blocks from the Governor's Mansion and it is smack dab in the middle of Texas Republican territory.

People are still scratching their heads trying to figure out how the Governor was indicted in Travis County, but he was, and many people are worried that Rick Perry is being a bit too cocky about this entire mess.

This will be the longest and dirtiest campaign for POTUS ever with the winner being the one with the most money that makes the most ridiculous promises of the good life for all. The phrase we will hear most often is "On the first day in office I will" or "in my first year I will" and "in my first term I will". The current POTUS went so far as saying if I don't cut the debt in half in my first term I should be a one term president. In collusion with congress He almost doubled the debt the combined total of all former presidents and was elected again with more promises of change and more free stuff for the majority.

Could be, his cocky butt could wind up in prison but I doubt it. It could also be a publicity stunt to draw media attention and sympathy for the governor and potential POTUS candidate. He does have a rather cavalier attitude about it.

You're absolutely right. Youre determination of my soul is quite meaningless. I don't care.

"ALL of Mr. Anthony Provancher's blasphemies are incorrect, as they should be."

You don't know the meaning of the word "blasphemy" if you think I have ever been guilty of offering one.

Blasphemy is defined as the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for a God, to religious or holy persons or things, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable.

Since everything I have ever typed that comes directly from the Bible has stood the test of time as being 100% true and correct, it certainly doesn't qualify under the definition as being blasphemy.

Have I shown a lack of reverence? Nope, but I do consider it to be being brutally honest when describing the Great flood as an act of murder, because it could not be any other way.

If God had killed only adults, that might be excused as wiping out sinners. But he wiped out children and animal life. What were their sins?

Murder is murder, whether it is committed by Darren Wilson or God himself.

God expressed remorse and I guess he forgave himself, but it was murder and their are 32 other acts of murder that God ordered or committed in the Old Testament.

But you know what? All this is the testimony of our fewllow humans who wrote thew books of the Bible or who edited them. There is no evidence whatsoever that God wrote a word in the Bible, or that it was devinely inspired either.

When one considers the Bible to be the word of God, they trap themselves into corners that cannot aregue themselves out of.

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." – Matthew 24:34

"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." – Mark 13:30-31

"And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." – Mark 9:1

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." – Luke 9:27

Connie, how can the verse only be true if Jesus was God incarnate?

Do you not take notice of the fact that even Jesus himself refers to God as being...wait for it...here it comes....he refers to God as being:

ALONE

"No one is good--except God alone."

Perhaps if it were written anywhere in the Bible where God or Jesus referred to themselves as anything but individuals, there might be more to this Trinity theory you espouse.

If Christianity only hinges on the Trinity theory, as you have suggested, then Christianity is in deep, deep trouble. It has no basis. The Bible makes no clear reference to it, it does not ask anyone to believe in it, and the word "Christian" only appears three times in the New Testament and not once in the Old Testament.

Christianity is based on a belief that Jesus is the Son of God, that he died for all our sins and rose to Heaven to be beside his father for all time.

His existence does not hinge on him being a sinless Messiah while here on Earth. He merely died for all our sins.

Jesus does not have to be God for all the puzzle pieces to fit that gives us eternal life. Salvation is our puzzle piece. It is very simple and not complicated at all, as you have suggested.

You sit wherever you are behind your anonymous screen name and your computer and tremble in fear of a wrathful God, if you must.

I believe in a loving God, who is most forgiving of all that we do as humans, who understands that all of us are weak and who sin on a daily basis, no matter how hard we try not to.

I believe that many people who believe themselves to be good Christians will receive a very big surprise when they stand before God and his Son on their individual judgment days.

I have no idea if I will be one of those who receives a big surprise, but I happen to believe that God gave me a brain to use, to ponder with, and to question anything that makes no sense, including and especially what is in that holy book we know as the Bible.

I don't know if you could have picked a better passage of Scripture to refute your belief that one can be a Christian and be a Homosexual/sodomite.

I will say again that no assembly of true Christians/believers would ever accept a Homosexual/sodomite as a member.

Regarding Matthew 18:15-20, you stated, "If you have a problem with someone and can't resolve it, leave the person alone - which I plan to do."

That of course is NOT what that passage teaches.

ole connie, she is right about one thing, she takes things beyond the limit of reason and it drives me up the wall enough to a sin, she sez, "You MISUSED that passage to say that you were going to leave me alone...You are not about to leave me alone."

I am going to correct her twisted logic once again, before I go off to purgatory for doing it:

If faith (a word she uses equivalently with Christianity) can be defended by a human then faith(Christianity) is of a human thing that humans can preserve, defend, protect. Since humans are capable of defending only things of human origin, if we are able to defend Christianity then we do not need God to preserve, defend, protect Christianity. It is of human origin. Extending connie's logic further, we do not need God to be Christian, we only need the powers of human nature.

I suggest to you that Christianity is a gift of grace freely given by the only power capable of giving it, and therefore it stands "on its own two feet" needing no defense by humanity, rather the responsibility of Christians is to live as Christ lived.

You distort Jude severely, he is uplifting Christians not preaching to non-believers and he says even love them. It is not your place to attach people you think are non-believers.

While I am about the act of sinning, on a side note on one of your other diatribes: It is too bad that the english language has no linguistic structure other than "It" to describe a being that is neither male or female, but living and extra-sentient, so I suggest we alternate using the male and female pronoun to refer to God. Use He/Him and the next time use She/Her or use "It" since "it' connotes either an inanimate or non-human object, the latter being as close as the language gets to describing God (not very close).

"17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector."

*"18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

"19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven."

================================

Surely by now you recognize the passage is about disciplining sinning members and not leaving someone alone.

Matthew 18:15:

“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private..."

First, Jesus was addressing disciples, outward believers, not a blood relative.

He was not addressing heathens, who are never called brethren, Christians, believers etc.

Notice that this "brother" was in some sin. Let's say sodomy.

Now, the one who knows of his sodomy is to confront him about the sin of sodomy, is he not?

And he is first to go to him in private.

To summarize, there is a sin. A member is committing sodomy, a sin. The one who knows about the sin is to confront him.

Let that sink in.

And to lay to rest for zabby who keeps harping on this black person is married to a white person as if it's some new age phenomena recently taking place because today it's more openly embraced, sometimes exploited by mainstream (often white) america; this is not at all new, zab. Although a lot of those relationships took place during slavery, and not all were forced but not openly acceptable or acknowledged , there was a period after the civil war ended and before Jim Crow laws were enacted, that southern blacks and whites were openly in conjugal relationships that weren't frowned upon and no one ended up swinging from the branch of a poplar tree for it. There were no black/white water fountains or no blacks allowed/whites only signs. Then Jim Crow laws changed all of that when they were established. The Delaney sisters touched on that aspect of american history in their book Having Our Say. Rememer the Delaney sisters who lived to be as over a hundred and were young girls before Jim Crow and remember the day the law went into effect. He day they could drink from the local public water fountain and the very next day they could not. That's just how quickly Jim Crow was enacted. Other discriminating laws would soon follow. The grandfather of the Delaney sisters was white who openly was married to or lived with his black wife.

So, when you start on your little tirade about this black person married to this or that white person as if it's some kind of new creation recently thought up, you just prove your ignorance of american history on race.

This passage deals with YOUR problem.

You are the one who admittedly has known Homosexuals/sodomites in your "church" and you welcome them contrary to Bible doctrine.

You would never deal with a known sodomite in your church in flagrant disobedience to God's will.

You would also allow and have allowed known sodomites to be a member of your "church" by your own admission.

Not so with my church or any true church of believers.

Again, I told you that I would expose you when you set out to deceive.

You really are easy to expose.

INQUIRINGMIND

You should read Matt. 18:15-20 and take it to heart. It says, basically, If you have a problem with someone and can't resolve it, leave the person alone - which I plan to do. It also contains a clue as to why you are heretofore unsuccessful in your strident efforts to enlist support.

==================================

Again, this passage is not about leaving someone alone.

Matthew 18:17

"If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector."

Now we get to the consequences for that unrepentant sodomite or any sinner.

The passage started out with a church member in a known sin. We can know what sin is, very important.

Next, a member is to go to him and confront him about his sin in order to restore him.

If he won't listen and repent then a witness or two is to confirm that.

And now the WHOLE church is to know of the sodomites sin and his refusal to repent.

Now, contrast that with your admission that you have known sodomites as members in your "church."

==============================================================

More soon.

Just a reminder, your opposition to me began a while back with my posting of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10:

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

That passage of Scripture is quite plan and you of course can't refute it.

Ekklesia=congregation! possibly church! there were no congregations or churches during the lifetime of Jesus. There was no organized worship during his life. Therefore either Matthew was written long after Jesus died, or has been edited subsequently. Study, study, study, the truth will set you free.

If you exclude a sinner from your fellowship because of their sin you are complicit in their sin and may as well have done it yourself.

Oh, Connie has contributed nothing original since her first comment however many weeks or months ago that was, everything else is like the girl at UTC last year who simply stood and spewed vile, insulting vomit at every passerby seeking to drive them from faith (in its true meaning.)

You're ASSuming that is correct based on something another human being wrote.

It does not come from God nor his Son.

The fact us, you don't know who or what will inherit the Kingdom of God...not even if your sorry ass will be welcomed there.

There is no way a real Christian would keep up a campaign the way you do.

This is why I often use the term "assembly of believers"

The disciples Jesus was addressing in Matthew 18 were believers.

The truth still stands that his disciples, assembly of believers are to deal with sin in His Church, group of believers, assembly of believers etc and are not to tolerate sin.

fairymon said: "would you prefer to eliminate all police and let everyone fend for themselves_

If policing isn't reformed and restructered from top to bottom, there may come a day when Americans might be forced to fend for themselves anyway. As long as the police performs like a military invasion/occupying/destabilizing force they are not peace officers and have become the very thing the founding fathers feared most.

Theres been nothing positive to come from the way police have been allowed to basically go into primarily poor and minority communities and operate and with no oversight or accountability. They've basically kept those communities at a place where they can't possibly rise above their situation and be sustainable. Police have played a significant role in why some communities remain in poverty while others flourish. The laws are there but they haven't been enforced across the board. Theyre enforced or not enforced based on the community and its economic and racial makeup.

Even in racially mixed/diverse communities there's often a stark difference in how an individual is treated when police encounter a black person verses a white. Even if those individuals are related or come from the same household. With the black, it's often immediate suspicion. With the white, it's more like an introduction to get to know the person better and give advice on safety. That's from personal observation.

The problem, KI, is that most white guys do not take the time to really get to know African-Americans to appreciate how pervasive racial pre-judgment is. It also bleeds over into every case wherein the first assumption is if the person has a record, they must be guilty of the current offense. The first assumption by a policeman is based on the color of one's skin. Does not matter if the officer is white or colored.

So true! inquire. That's why I've always said hiring more black officers is not necessarily the solution. And unless the way police police certain communities based on skin color the problems will not only remain, but can also worsen. I've seen black cops who treated fellow blacks worse than the white cops treat them. Or when the white cop steps over the line make sure a black cop arrives on the scene to vouch that nothing happened or lie for the cop and say the victim was resisting And look at the one recent black chief Chattanooga had. He went out on a limb to protect his rogue cops, who had no respect for him and often made crude insulting remarks about him. They treated him like  he was ttheir water-boy or black caddy or something.

I do know it for a fact and not just because the police said so. Do you ever hear of anything good about a policeman. Many have saved lives, risk their own and been good Samaritans to without regard for race. Many more do that than the few that taint all of them with the help of people like you and the news media ignoring the good and spreading anything bad.

Did you ever see the movie C.R.A.S.H, fairymon? Though fictional, but based on real life experiences for many, it explains how the same cop who brutalize a citizen or sexually assault them on the side of the road will just as well risk life and limb to rescue that same individual from a burning car or home. It's a psychological effect perhaps better explained by a psychiatrist as to why some cops act and react differently depending on the situation before them.
