TFP ice bucket challengeTimes Free Press digital director Ed Bourn, right, has a bucket of ice water dumped on his head as managing editor Alison Gerber, center, and controller Russell Lively, left, look on after taking the ice bucket challenge to benefit the ALS association on Friday.
Frank McDonald, former president of the Chattanooga Times Free Press, a beloved member of the bluegrass band Dismembered Tennesseans, and a committed community volunteer, lived with ALS for years.
During that time, he showed tremendous courage, always facing his daily challenges with his trademark sharp wit and ready quips.
Well into his battle with ALS, Frank would come to the newspaper office at 400 E. 11th St. every day in a specially-equipped van driven by his longtime friend and fellow Dismembered Tennessean bandmate, Fletcher Bright.
Frank died in 2000.
