A fire in Hixson caused substantial damage to a home at 6209 North Innsbrook Drive early Saturday morning.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 3 a.m. and five fire companies responded, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Charles Patten said in the release that smoke and flames were visible in the attached garage when firefighters first reported to the scene. Two adults were in the house and escaped safely to a neighbor's house across the street.

Officials believe that the fire started in the garage. Flames consumed the car inside the garage and spread quickly to the attic before firefighters got the blaze under control. The estimated cost of damage is $100,000, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental, though the cause is still unknown.
