SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Authorities say a San Bernardino policeman remains in a medically induced coma after he was shot in the head by a man who was then killed by another officer.

Police say 31-year-old Gabriel Garcia was in extremely critical condition on Saturday.

Police Chief Jarrod Burguan says Garcia is responding to treatment and fighting for his life.

Garcia was shot once in the head and twice in the upper body on Friday as he and his partner stopped to talk to a group of people outside a home.

His partner killed the gunman during a shootout. Police say at least 30 shots were fired.
