Local classic car dealer Ron Lane won the $1,500 top prize in the Super Pro class this past Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. Lane won with a 5.01-second run on a 4.99 dial in a new Miller rear-engine dragster. Shane Hartline of Higdon, Ala., was second with a 6.02 run on a 6.00 dial in a 1966 Mustang. Mike Dike Jr. of Hampton, Ga., was the Foot Brake winner with David Bigham of Calhoun, Ga., second, and Jake Clayton of Ooltewah won the Junior Dragster class with an 8.24 run on an 8.24 dial. He was the strip's 2013 junior champion. Morgan Allen of Ringgold was second Saturday. Cynthia Warnock again had the meet's top speed (149.5 mph) and low elapsed time (4.63 seconds).

Baseball

• The Chattanooga Cyclones K fall baseball team went 4-0 in winning the Southern Wood Bat Troy University Fall Classic this past weekend. Alex Barbee pitched a no-hitter in a 14-0 win over Wiregrass Baseball, when Noah Hill had two hits, a run and an RBI and Cade Evans and Jackson Bell each scored twice. Cole Vaugh, Corbin Brooksbank and winner Seth Wicker pitched well in a 4-1 win over Viper Baseball that included two hits and an RBI from Logan Haga and RBI hits also by Hunter Mercer and Hunter Oliver. Bell had three RBIs, Hill scored twice and Bell got the win in a 7-4 defeat of the Cyclones H, and Evans had two hits, a run and an RBI, Alex Tucker hit a three-run double and Nick Gaddis and winner Mercer pitched the K's to a 7-2 win over the Alabama Rays 18s. The Cyclone H's beat Wiregrass and the Alabama Rays 16s and lost to the Viper Baseball 18s.
