A 26-year-old man initially crashed his car at the 800 block of Chestnut Street downtown and continued to drive, until he got into a second crash on Rossville Avenue early Sunday morning, according to Tim McFarland, the public information officer for the Chattanooga Police Department.

McFarland said that Police dispatch received a call regarding the second crash around 3 a.m. and responded to the scene along with EMS who transported the driver, Alex Hernandez, to the hospital for minor injuries.

It appeared that Hernandez was under the influence, McFarland said, and the charges against him list that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Hernandez has also been charged with evading arrest, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular assault, and driving under the influence.

His next court date is set for Sept. 3 before Hamilton County Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck.
