Remains found by a hunter in Apison, were confirmed to be human on Friday afternoon by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
The remains were found around the 4500 block of Clonts Road by a hunter who called the sheriff's office to report the finding around 3:50 p.m. Thursday.
The sheriff's office requested assistance in the recovery of the remains from the Forensic Anthropology Center at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The remains will be transferred to the Forensic Anthropology Center for identification, a spokesman for the sheriff's office said.
On Friday, Clonts Road was blocked to all traffic other than residents, and officials say the investigation is ongoing.
