Sewanee women improve to 5-1 with win and other sports news

• The Sewanee women's basketball team continued their hot start to the season with a 60-55 win Sunday afternoon at Roanoke College. The Tigers (5-1) outscored the hosts 34-18 in the first half and held on down the stretch for the victory. Jamie Chauvin led Sewanee with 15 points, and Kelley Myers (14) and Rebekah Faulkner (10) each had double-figure scoring games off the bench. Kayla Sewell grabbed 14 rebounds in the win that gives the Sewanee women's team its best start since the 2005-04 season.

Boxing

• The sixth annual Guns & Hoses: Battle of the Badges boxing event matching area law-enforcement personnel against firefighters will be held Saturday night at UTC's Maclellan Gymnasium, beginning at 7. It's a charity fundraiser for the local Y-CAP program and the Forgotten Child Fund. Tickets can be bought at the gate or online at Eventbrite.com, and corporate tables seating eight are available for $300 and $500 by calling Abbey Smith at 779-4719. General admission costs $15; ringside reserved seats are $30.
