Jeremy ScrewsErlanger East adds pediatric gastroenterologist
Erlanger East is adding Jeremy Screws, M.D., pediatric gastroenterologist, to the Gunbarrel Road campus.
Dr. Screws is a graduate of University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed his residency at University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga, and his fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. He specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect children's digestive system such as inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, food allergies, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and liver, pancreatic and eosinophilic disorders.
Bowman is very excited to join the aquarium staff and looks forward to many years of working with the volunteers and enhancing the program. He will hit the ground running with two recruitment drives underway.
Julie PiperPiper named HR manager
Julie Piper has been promoted to the human resources manager position at the Tennessee Aquarium. She will also be supervising the housekeeping staff.
Julie started at the aquarium in 1995 and has worked in both the education and human resources departments. For the last 16 years, she has managed the volunteer department and has grown the program from 200 volunteers to more than 600.
She is from Knoxville, Tenn., and graduated from Farragut High School and earned her bachelor's degree at MTSU.
She is an active member of the local chapter of Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA), previously an executive board member of the Girl Scouts of Moccasin Bend, serving as 1st, 2nd & 3rd Vice President and Secretary (15 years), Member of AZA and AZAVA, Friends of Chattanooga Animal Services (FOCAS) and the Chattanooga Nature Center.
Susan BarnetteCrye-Leike brings aboard Barnette
Susan Barnette was recently hired as the new director of career development for Crye-Leike's Chattanooga region. She will help recruit, train, mentor and motivate agents to have a successful career in real estate.
Barnette will also continue assisting real estate buyers and sellers based out of Crye-Leike's East Brainerd branch office. She is a licensed realtor in Tennessee and Georgia, specializing in residential real estate sales and first-time homebuyers. She works with clients in and around the Chattanooga area and also where she lives in Cleveland, Tenn.
From 2010 until 2012, Susan proudly served as the education director for the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors where she helped develop education programs and train real estate agents. Susan also received the Educator of the Year Award from the Tennessee Association of Realtors in 2010.
Neff joinsThrive 55
Thrive 2055, a local collaborative planning effort for the next 40 years of growth across a 16-county region, has hired Maggie Neff as its communications and outreach coordinator.
In this newly created job, Neff will oversee continued efforts to involve members of the public in determining the direction of the project.
Bridgett Massengill, Thrive 2055 project manager, said Neff's strong communications background and passion for people and communities make her a welcomed asset to Thrive 2055, especially as it continues to engage people who live, work, and play in our region.
Prior to joining Thrive 2055, Neff was a senior managing editor for a Chattanooga-based health care marketing services company.
Dixie addsOwens to board
Michael L. Owens, assistant dean of graduate programs and a lecturer at the College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. has been appointed to its board of directors of the Dixie Group, Inc. Owens was previously president of Coverdell & Co. in Atlanta and will stand for re-election later this year. Daniel K. Frierson, Dixie's chairman and CEO, said the company board is increasing from eight to nine members and has appointed Owens to fill the vacancy. Owens earned his MBA from Loyola College of Maryland. The Dixie Group is a leading marketer and manufacturer of carpet and rugs to higher-end residential and commercial customers.
Rios certified as global pro
Ivette Rios has earned the Certified Global Business Professional Credential presented by NASBITE International. Rios was born in the northern part of Mexico and grew up in Arizona where she earned her bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Arizona. She is bicultural and fluent in Spanish, French and English.
Rios is employed at Chattanooga State and is a small business specialist at the Tennessee Small Business Development Center with six years experience in the global business industry, having conducted international business in Latin America for a carpet manufacturer. As a business partner with a media-consulting firm for more than 11 years, she served as a marketing and sales manager for the northwestern Georgia region. The CGBP credential provides a benchmark for competency in global commerce and demonstrates an individual's ability to conduct global business.
Patrick MitchellMitchell elected to committee
James M. Haley IV, chairman of Miller & Martin, announced that Patrick Mitchell has been elected to the firm's policy committee. The policy committee serves as the firm's managing board of directors. Mitchell, a 13-year veteran of the firm, concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate finance and general business representation. Betsy Gibson and Julie Cook have been named financial advisors at Round Table Advisors of Raymond James. Gibson joined Raymond James in 2003 and brings more than 10 years of industry experience to her new role. She has been serving as the senior investment specialist for Round Table Advisors of Raymond James since 2011. Gibson was recently awarded the Wealth Management Specialist designation.

Northwestern Mutual is honoring Chattanooga financial representative John Sterner, CFP, with membership in its 2013 forum group which recognizes individuals for an outstanding year of helping clients achieve financial security. Sterner is affiliated with Northwestern Mutual based in Chattanooga. This is the fourth time that Sterner received the forum honor.
