Moccasin Bend Brewing Company brewer and co-owner Chris Hunt displays the tasting room's 13 taps. Located at 4015 Tennessee Ave., the brewery's tasting room is open Thursday-Sunday and often hosts live music or other events.

The Moccasin Bend Brewing Co. in St. Elmo has been closed down by the city of Chattanooga for "alleged code violations," according to the brewery's Facebook page.

"Last night marked the largest crowd MBBC has ever seen and would have been our highest grossing night ever," reads a Facebook post. "However, the large crowd and the hype provided by the three popular (and super fantastic) bands that played last night put a huge target on our back given the unexpectedly large turnout."

The brewery's owner and lead brewer, Chris Hunt, believed he had city permission to stay open while working to bring the building up to code, according to the Facebook post, but a city fire marshal ordered the business shut down Friday night.

Hunt said on the page he has a meeting with city officials Monday to discuss the issue.

The issue is "non-permitted and unsafe electrical wiring," Lacie Stone, city communications director, said in an email Saturday. She expects to know more Monday, she added.

City Councilman Chris Anderson, who represents St. Elmo, said he hopes to help the brewery get reopened, calling it in an email "a crucial part of the vibrant local St. Elmo business community."

The Facebook post said the brewery still will be able to deliver kegs filled before Friday night to area taprooms and bars.

No one from the brewery could be reached for additional comment Saturday.
