Alex Hudson and Dawson Peck recorded technical falls and Scottie Boykin added a major decision to lead the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to a lopsided 35-8 wrestling victory over banged up Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon.

It was the worst loss Appalachian has absorbed this season, but it was nowhere near a glowing Mocs performance in the eyes of coach Heath Eslinger.

"It's nice to win by 27 when you don't wrestle very well," Eslinger said in assessing his 20th-ranked team's showing. "We did a lot of work this week so maybe we need to back off a little bit, but I thought Hudson looked good and I thought Dawson Peck looked good."

In the Mocs' final home dual meet of the season, Hudson and former Baylor standout Trey Stavrum were recognized in senior day ceremonies.

Hudson improved to 23-6, his technical fall taking just 47 seconds into the second period. The 157-pounder led 11-0 after the first period.

Peck, the transfer heavyweight from Virginia Tech, had an even more impressive first round of his debut at Macllelan Gym, forging a 13-1 advantage.

"He went out and wrestled his match, and when you wrestle your match guys are going to have a hard time beating you," Eslinger said.

"I like there to be a lot of scoring and a lot of action," the 6-foot-8 Peck said. "The point of wrestling is to score as many points as you can."

Peck is now 7-1 since transferring from the Hokies to join UTC at the beginning of this semester.

"This is a great environment. The coaches are great and the team is awesome. I feel like I've known them forever."

Peck's roommate, 184-pound John Lampe, started the meet with a win. He scored a takedown with 24 seconds left to pull out a 5-4 victory over Nick Vetell.

"It was nice, but we should beat that guy by eight," Eslinger said. "It's nice when you can tell your performances aren't great and your guys are still winning.

Scottie Boykin improved the lead to 7-0 with a major decision and Peck's technical fall boosted UTC's lead to 12-0 before Vito Pastone got a technical fall for Appalchian.

Nick Soto received a forfeit at 133 before freshman Jake Smith pulled out a 3-2 win over frustrated Mocs 141-pound Michael Pongracz.

UTC rolled from there - a decision from Sams, Hudson's technical fall, a decision for Corey Mock and a forfeit for Levi Clemons.

The match improved the Mocs' overall record to 13-5 and assures UTC of the best record in the Eslinger era.

"Our progress is measured over the whole season, the total body of work. I think we have progressed, that we have a great bunch of kids and that we are continuing to compete at a high level," the coach said.

The Mocs will be on the road next weekend, wrestling at Campbell University on Saturday and at Davidson on Sunday.
