Winter weather advisory for West TN, east Arkansas

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Officials say a winter weather advisory will be in effect ahead of expected snowfall in West Tennessee and eastern Arkansas.

The National Weather Service says the advisory goes into effect at 6 p.m. today and continues until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Meteorologists say areas along and north of Interstate 40 can expect an inch of snow with other areas receiving up to 2 inches.

Officials are warning of possible travel difficulties due to snow accumulation on roads.

In Shelby County, which includes Memphis, officials say salt and sand trucks are loaded and ready to clear roads of ice and snow.

The advisory includes Tipton County, which saw more than 10,000 residents lose power during a winter storm earlier this week.
