ATLANTA - Another round of winter weather is expected to coat north Georgia and the metro Atlanta region with snow and ice this week.

A winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect Monday evening through Wednesday morning. Meteorologists say the storm could impact travel early this week if ice accumulations coat roads and highways.

Meteorologists say they're expecting between a quarter inch and an inch of ice to accumulate on roads, bridges and overpasses. Officials say the ice accumulations could also bring down power lines and tree branches.

The City of Atlanta was preparing to pre-treat priority roads and bridges beginning Monday at 6 p.m., according to Carlos Campos, a spokesman for Mayor Kasim Reed.

The city had 1,500 tons of road treatment materials at its disposal as of Sunday evening and was ordering additional supplies, Campos said, adding that residents are urged to fill their cars' gas tanks, stock up on essential food supplies and avoid driving if snow and freezing rain begins to fall.

Forecasters say snow will likely fall as far south as the Warner Robins area in middle Georgia.

Meteorologists say predictions for snow and ice accumulations could shift as the weather system approaches.
