As of 9 p.m., approximately 3,000 North Georgia EMC customers are without power due to ice weighing down trees and causing them to fall into power lines. Outages are scattered across NGEMC's seven-county service area. Crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Outages in some areas may be extended due to substantial line damage and poor road conditions.

As precipitation continues, the number of power outages may increase. To report outages, call your local NGEMC office or use the NGEMC mobile app. During widespread outages, hold times may be affected due to extremely high call volume. Crews will remain on duty until all power has been restored.

During winter storms and power outages, residents should use the following safety measures:

• Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately to NGEMC, your local power company or call 911.

• Never assume a downed line is not energized.

• Follow manufacturer safety precautions when using a supplemental heat source or power supply.

• Generators should have a working power transfer (double-pole or double-throw) switch to isolate the power source from NGEMC's distribution system. This safety switch is vital for the protection of line workers and the public.
