More snow than expected? Looks like the forecasters played it safe

Forecasters might have played it safe with their forecasts of 3 to 5 inches of snow overnight, with accumulations ranging from 5 to 9 inches being reported by residents across the region.

A brief roundup of what some Times Free Press readers are reporting:

• 10 inches in McDonald

• 9 inches - Signal Mountain

• 9 inches in Cleveland

• 9 inches in Rossville

• 8 inches in Apison

• 8 inches in Chickamauga, Ga.

• 7 inches in Ooltewah

• 7 inches in Ringgold

• 8 inches in Soddy-Daisy

• 8 inches in Hixson

• 5 inches in Red Bank

The National Weather Service reported that snow fell at a rate of about a half an inch an hour.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-40s today.
