MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Human remains found in Rutherford County have been identified as those of a missing cancer patient.
The Daily News Journal reports the state Medical Examiner's Office confirmed on Thursday that the remains belonged to Dale Gaines. They were found on Feb. 2.
Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Capt. David Hailey says a cause of death could not be determined, but foul play isn't suspected.
Gaines was last seen Sept. 17, 2013. His brother, Jonah Gaines, had dropped him off in Murfreesboro. He was being treated for cancer at the time.
