Alabama man wounds two, arrested

At around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Benny Joe Owens, 47, of Stevenson, Ala., was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied building.

Around noon Saturday, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Stevenson Police Department had responded to a report of a shooting on County Road 96 in Stevenson that resulted in a 31-year-old male being shot in the shoulder. The second victim, a 38-year-old female, had also been shot at, but missed by the gunfire. The male victim was taken to Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, Ala. with what police believe to be non-life threatening injuries.

Law enforcement officials investigated the area and recovered two weapons on the side of County Road 96, near the Widows Creek Steam Plant.

Police later found Owens at a camper trailer on County Road 135 in Stevenson. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail, and no bond had been set yet.
