The Recall Campaign

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Local issue or not. What was the reason for the Scott Walker recall attempts again?

Lots of gayness coming from clay. He must have his iron planted firmly in Anderson's fire.

The issue is failure to be good stewards of tax payer money. There is no justification for expanding or increasing benefits spending. The people in any district of council members voting to increase spending by any amount when unnecessary should wonder if they have elected the right person.

The question or issue should be why are benefits provided for any person other than the employee? The rhetoric of needing to do so to attract and hold employees is weak as water. There is no position in the government that cannot be easily replaced if the current holder decides to leave. Salary is the vehicle that will attract and hold competent people but the selection process needs to identify them.

Jesse, Clay hit the nail on the head, no pun intended.

You have to be Rip Van Winkle to have missed these facts: 1. Chris Anderson supports extending marriage benefits to all who are married including homosexuals. 2. Chris Anderson is openly gay. 2. A local vociferous religious hater of homosexuality and preacher stirs up a recall petition of Chris Anderson in the African-American community where there is a noticeable (but not necessarily majority) prejudice against gay men. 3. The son of a local vociferous religious hater of homosexuality and preacher does the recall web site. 4. Jesse says it isn't about homosexuality and the vote on the "same-sex" benefits package but for some other reason he should "never have gotten elected..."

fairmon is injecting an entirely different argument, one that ought to be resolved at the voting booth on election day. He seems to think we ought to all have voting buttons in our residence so we can instantly vote on every action of an elected official and off with their head if we disagree.

They call that mob-rule. There have been a few sci-fi movies about that mindset.

A recall process that does not have carefully crafted requirements for certification only allows government to degenerate into anarchy and mob-rule that subverts the entire electoral process. The only ones with a desire to serve will be criminals who know how to hide their tracks and bigots in white hoods who can fan the flames of emotion the highest. We have had enough lynchings in this country.

cooljb is correct. It was bait and switch. Being openly gay didn't stop him from being elected, did it? This country is full of cry babies who throw out terms like homophobe and racist everytime something doesn't go their way. Go live in another country and you'll see real "homophobia" and racism in 2014.

And what if VW decides they don't want to build the SUV in Chattanooga? This should have been about the employees at VW and instead it turned into a dog and pony show to see which politician could get the biggest donation from Grover come election season. I will be really surprised if lawsuits don't arise from some of the statements made by politicians.

Anderson is being recalled because he is gay and because he did not shelve the ordinance after the CGAT petition drive in November was successful. That was abundantly clear after Charles Wysong was the name behind the recall petition. Brainerd is just as unsafe as Alton Park, why no recall of the councilman effort there? No pot makes most people stupid and stays in your system for weeks after one use. Look for traffic and workplace industrial accidents and deaths to increase in the states that have approved medical pot. The stats and the negative impact on American society will not lie. Of course for those that imbibe and let pot take over it is less competition for me and my kids in the business world. As Mr. Darwin so astutely wrote.....only the strong....and sober....survive. Wow man vote Democrat man dude they will take care of us man. Dude, what day is it man? Where am I".......yea right, pot will make a positive impact on society! It's "natural" man so it must be safe!"........lol!

PlainTruth, quit acting like you are the moderator. I have heard you scold countless others on here for this or that reason, so what now, you had some epiphany? I guess I could get back in your good graces if I say Obama sucks and I'm a moderate. Maybe if I posted some twitter link I'd be half as cool as you. Get over yourself.

In moderation, wine is good for the soul. And yes, any drug, if abused can kill you. But when it comes to pot, do we really need to legalize another way for people to escape the responsibility of reality. No, legalizing pot, which is a gateway drug by the way, will just create more useful idiots for nanny state hucksters like Barry The Welfare Pimp. That's all.

Would you then be alright if they removed the benefits for heterosexual spouses? This is about treating people like human beings that have the same rights as everybody else.

Is marriage a universal right or just a privileged form of contract that serves a compelling governmental need? If it is universal then why is the government allowed to place restrictions on the number of participants involved in each contract, the age or family relationship of the participants, etc.? If it is a privileged form of contract then what compelling need does it serve?

Or it could be the Great White Female Hope ... Hillary. Would need a bulletproof Hoveround, the Secret Service would be required to carry around a plentiful supply of Depends, support hose, 5 gal. buckets of face spackle, denture cream and Hostess Ding Dongs.. She would summon them with her Life Alert “Reset” button when she has fallen and can’t get up in the Serenity Safety Bath walk-in bathtub. The press typically leans to the left, since Democrats tend to support freedom of the press.

According to Reporters Without Borders, America dropped 13 spots on the World Press Freedom Index 2014, designed to rank 180 countries in terms of the freedoms journalists enjoy and the regulations placed on them by government authorities. The Index, published Feb. 11, shows that America now ranks number 46, below countries like South Africa and France. The Index has been published annually since 2002, but the 2014 ranking for America marks one of the most significant declines ever reported.

Investigative journalist James Risen believes the Index rightly shows the drop in American journalists’ freedoms due to crackdowns on reporters and whistleblowers and theefforts of the Obama administration and the National Security Agency to limit the amount of information America has concerning the “War on Terror” and other subjects.

“I think 2013 will go down in history as the worst year for press freedom in the United States modern history,” James Risen said.

“We have an administration that came in claiming that it was going to be the most transparent in history when in fact it is one of the most secretive in history, and certainly the most aggressive anti-press administration in modern American history,” Risen said.

The day after Obama’s inauguration in 2009, he signed an executive order into law that would hold the government accountable to the American public.

“Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency,” Obama said.

However, the Associated Press, the NSA, and IRS scandals have marred Obama’s reputation for transparency.

dude_abides said...

The subpoena to Risen was originally issued but then abandoned by the Bush administration, and then revitalized by Obama lawyers. It is part of the prosecution of Jeffrey Sterling, a former CIA agent whom the DOJ accuses of leaking to Risen the story of a severely botched agency plot — from 11 years ago — to infiltrate Iran’s nuclear program, a story Risen wrote about six years after the fact in his 2006 best-selling book, State of War. The DOJ wants to force Risen to testify under oath about whether Sterling was his source.

Looks like another mess to be cleaned up for "W." And you, obviously, are in with the "Free Snowden" crowd, JayT.

Orr, not surprisingly, here you are discussing sexual activities between homosexual males. Your gaydar must have started chirping the minute the TFP put up this cartoon referencing a gay male. That's the only time you post, when you can start talking about anal sex because it keeps the light from being shined on your closeted homosexual tendencies. Mention the word gay, homo, Anderson, etc. and you come running like a young Fleischmann to a fender bender. Plenty of STD's running rampant in the hetero world, I guess you blame that on gays also? Some of you creeps sound just like the loons from Westboro.

I wish TFP would do a poll:

Is Ken Orr gay?

I think resoundingly the vote would be yes.

I’m sure it baffles you personally as to what kind of psychological illness affects the gay and lesbian communities that a significant portion would be afflicted with such self hate ... Right? You do think that the hate it is nature and not nurture ... don’t you?

BTW ... What’s the deal with a supposedly gay man blaming STD’s on gays and being in sympathy with Westboro? ... just the rampant sickness in that group? ... You could be right.

I don’t know what his involvement is in the case you referenced. However I do not support Sterling for releasing secret information as revenge for a failed racial discrimination case. I would have supported Snowdon if he had released the data to the U.S. news media and stood his ground on principle. But he ran to our enemies and as it stands now we are not sure this was not a espionage or mercenary act.

You mean Chelsea Elizabeth .. don’t you?

If “she” had been a true whistle-blower that was releasing evidence of malfeasance in government, yes I would have supported “her”. However “she” simply allowed “her” mental instability and anger about perceived military oppression of her gender issues to be manipulated. Those that just wanted to go on a fishing expedition through U.S. secret data to extract embarrassing anecdotes used “her”. There was no intention of uncovering wrong doing for the purpose that it could be corrected but only a plan to injure the country for no other purpose that the harm they could do.
