Tennessee Wesleyan College teams sweep Bryan College

The Tennessee Wesleyan College basketball teams both are ranked a couple of notches ahead of Bryan College in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings, and Saturday afternoon at home in Athens the TWC teams kept that status quo.

The first-place Lady Bulldogs, ranked 19th in NAIA Division II, improved to 21-3 overall and 16-2 in the AAC with a 58-42 win. Then the third-place Bulldogs won 82-75 despite 34 points, 11 rebounds and five steals by Bryan's Brandon Cole.

Tyler Burse had 22 points and eight rebounds and Shannon Smith had 20 points and four steals for the TWC men (15-11, 11-5), who also got 14 points and 13 rebounds from Devante' Jenkins, 12 points from Andrew Scofield and nine assists from Derek Hosey. Derrick Walker had 16 points and eight reobunds and Robert Troino scored 12 points for Bryan (14-12, 9-6).

Armeka Booker led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Alli Moreland added 15 points, Shira Buley provided 10 points, eight assists and nine rebounds and Cody Houck had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Bailey Lyness made three steals. For the Lady Lions (17-9, 12-5), Victoria Griffin and Kristin Lane scored 14 and 13 points, Lane with five assists, and Keila Formont grabbed eight rebounds.

• Lee (w) 67, Christian Brothers 58: At Memphis, Hollie German shot only 4-of-13 from the field but made all 12 of her free throws in scoring 21 points in the Lady Flames' 10th straight win, and Jenna Adams had 18 points and matched Rachel Lockhart with a game-high seven rebounds. Lee is 17-4 overall and leads the Gulf South Conference at 13-2.

• Christian Brothers 78, Lee 59: Drew Hildreth and Trey Casey scored 23 points apiece and Hildreth had 10 rebounds in the Memphis team's home GSC win. Tyquan Roberts led Lee with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Cory Billingsley and Jamal Worthington scored 11 and nine points.

• Southern Polytechnic 92, Dalton State 90: At Marietta, Ga., the Hornets dropped the first-year Roadrunners to 23-4 as Marcus Dorch and Chris Key scored 19 points each and Kevin Phillips and Chris Kingsberry added 15 and 14. Preston Earle scored 24 and Demetrice Jacobs and Ricky Sears tallied 20 each for Dalton State, Jacobs with 10 rebounds, and Tyrel Edwards had 13 points.

• Covenant (w) 71, Agnes Scott 58: At Decatur, Ga., the Lady Scots ended a four-game losing streak with a season high of 53.6 percent shooting from the field. Morgan Woodward and Kiaira Cooper scored 13 points each, Woodward with four assists and Cooper with four steals, and Jessie Blankenship had 10 points and nine rebounds for Covenant.

• Talladega (w) 83, Tennessee Temple 79: At Temple, Jamie Robinson had 26 points and 11 rebounds in the visitors' overtime win. For Temple (12-13), TaQuasha O'Neal scored 20 points, Angel Foster had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Amanda Rector had 14 points and seven assists.

• Walters State 78, Cleveland State 69: At Cleveland, the Cougars (11-10, 6-9) gave the Senators a battle before succumbing in the TCCAA matchup, as Jackie Hale scored 17 points, Travis Wildgoose had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Robert Brandon scored 11. Aaron Wheeler scored 20 and Trey Suttles had 18 plus 13 rebounds for Walters (15-13, 8-8).

• Walters (w) 96, Cleveland State 56: The nationally second-ranked Lady Senators coached by new NJCAA Hall of Famer Dave Kragel rose to 27-0, 16-0 in the TCCAA, behind 21 points and 13 rebounds from Jasmine McAllister. Jamesha Mosley led the Lady Cougars (16-7, 8-7) with 11 points.
