GATLINBURG, Tenn. - The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment for new facilities at the Smokemont Riding Stables.

The facilities would include a barn, several sheds, a horse wash rack, an office, a horse loading platform, a water well and fencing.

The proposed project will replace existing facilities, some of which were constructed in the early 1960s, including the main barn. The stables are located about six miles north of Cherokee, N.C.

The environmental assessment is available for public review on the National Parks Service's planning website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/grsm .

Online comments must be received by March 14. Mailed comments must be postmarked by that date.
