VALLEY GRANDE, Ala. - A Facebook photo of hanging puppy has led to a six-month jail sentence for a west Alabama man.

Andrew Parrish of Valley Grande pleaded guilty today to one count of animal cruelty. District Attorney Michael Jackson said the 23-year-old defendant will begin serving his jail sentence this weekend and will spend 24 months on probation after finishing his sentence. He must also serve 100 hours of community service and can't own an animal.

Jackson said a charge was dropped against Parrish's fiancee, 26-year-old Caroline Dunnam, as part of a plea agreement.

The couple was arrested last month after a photo was posted on Facebook showing the black puppy hanging by its neck from the ceiling. The district attorney said the puppy made a full recovery and has a new home.
