Man gets 25 years for shooting 13-year-old during Alabama barbecue

ANNISTON, Ala. - A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting and injuring a 13-year-old boy during a neighborhood barbecue.

The Anniston Star reports that Tanrrance Maurice Landrum, 24, was sentenced Wednesday after a jury convicted him of first-degree assault in January.

Witnesses testified that Landrum shot the now 14-year-old in his back and arm as the boy was leaving the barbecue with his family. Investigators have said the man had a fight with the teen's cousin before the shooting but it's unclear if the teen was the intended target.

Landrum's attorney, Susan Henderson, says her client will file an appeal.
