Freshman Jorden Williams from McCallie School scored 18 points as the Sewanee men's basketball team ended its regular season by edging Hendrix 54-51 on Sunday at Sewanee. That left the host Tigers 13-12 overall with a 6-8 Southern Athletic Association record going into the league tournament at Danville, Ky., with a 3 p.m. game Friday against fourth-seeded Rhodes. Keshonn Carter had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, who watched a Hendrix 3-point try miss with two seconds left. Hendrix overcame a six-point halftime deficit in winning the women's game 58-55 behind 20 points from Taylor Neal and 22 rebounds with 12 points from Jamie Tate. Paige Lowe scored 12 and Kayla Sewell and Jamie Chauvin tallied 11 each, Sewell with 16 rebounds and four steals, for Sewanee, which will face top-seeded Rhodes at 3 p.m. Friday in the women's tournament in Memphis.

Softball

• The Chattanooga State softball team improved to 18-0 overall and 4-0 in the TCCAA by defeating Cleveland State 10-0 in five innings and 7-6 on Sunday. Hanna Manley pitched a one-hitter in the first game, when Katy Richardson was 3-for-3 with a two-run triple and a double, Courtney Crawford was 2-for-2 and scored twice, Kelsey Thomas was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Elyse Ferguson was 2-for-3 with a double. Lindsey Stickrod was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a two-run double for the Lady Tigers in game two, while Bailee Williams and Sydney Spurgeon each was 2-for-3 and Sharlene Godoy struck out eight batters in six innings of relief. Hannah Powell was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Perry Hindi hit a solo homer for Cleveland State, which got close with a four-run sixth inning.

• Tennessee Temple got its first two softball wins of the season Sunday, beating Mount St. Joseph 8-5 and 11-8 at Ooltewah High School. Savannah Brownlee was the winning pitcher in both games, and Raven Pope and Brownlee kickstarted the second victory with first-inning home runs for Temple (2-6).

• After two Gulf South Conference losses Saturday at Alabama-Huntsville, the Lee University softball team fell 7-3 on Sunday. UAH (11-2, 4-2) is ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II. Freshman Jesse Giles had a two-run homer and a double for Lee (5-9, 2-4). The Lady Chargers won 8-1 and 9-4 on Saturday, allowing just four hits in the first game. Lee got 10 in game two, as Amanda Lynn went 3-for-4 and scored twice and Lexie Dean was 3-for-4 with a double.

• The Bryan College softball team beat visiting Berea 11-1 in five innings and 8-3 on Saturday, as Sarah Hundley got the save for a Kaitie Sims pitching victory and then got a win herself with seven innings of four-hit relief that included eight strikeouts. Heather Daniel and Becca Zimmerman had three hits apiece and four and three RBIs in the first game for the Lady Lions (4-3), and Katelyn Bowen had two RBIs. Daniel then homered twice in game two, driving in three runs and scoring three, while Rachel Kirby had two RBIs and Zimmerman and Kirstie Jennings each had two hits.

Lacrosse

• Sophomore Wittney Reed had five goals and two assists, Ellie Murphy had four goals with one assist and Sally Anne Greenwood had four assists and a goal as the Sewanee women's lacrosse team beat Huntingdon 17-7 in SAA play Sunday at Sewanee. Crawford Horan was credited with nine saves while counterpart Alexis McDonald made 17 under a heavy attack. Sewanee beat Rhodes 15-4 on Saturday with Mallory Grimm scoring four goals, Brita Budvig adding three and Murphy contributing four assists with a goal.

• The Sewanee men's lacrosse team lost 13-7 to Wittenberg in a Saturday match in Hendersonville, Tenn. That dropped the Tigers to 1-1. George Bukawyn scored three goals, Michael Morris had two assists and Tommy Healy had 13 saves in defeat. Jay Dolan had 16 saves for Wittenberg (1-0), which benefited from a balanced attack.
