The Hamilton County Election Commission's former attorney has been appointed to one of its seats.

Chris Clem, who resigned as the election commission's attorney in December, has been appointed to fill the seat being left by Tommy Crangle, who is running for a Tennessee House District 27 post being vacated by Rep. Richard Floyd, R-Chattanooga.

Clem announced he would resign as the body's attorney in December, after the commission approved a petition to let Chattanooga voters decide whether the city will keep an ordinance to give same-sex couple health benefits to its employees.

The Hamilton County Legislative Delegation appointed Clem.
