MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A chancellor has appointed the state Department of Commerce and Insurance as receiver of a Memphis-area cemetery.

The Commercial Appeal reports the order gives the agency up to four months to determine the level of alleged mismanagement at Galilee Memorial Gardens in Bartlett.

The owner of the cemetery, 38-year-old Jemar Lambert, was taken into custody last week after Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee revoked his bond on a charge of theft of property over $60,000.

Lambert was charged last year with burying bodies on adjoining land not owned by the cemetery.

He also was arrested Jan. 24 on charges of theft of property and abuse of a corpse after complaints alleging he buried three different people in the same grave last March.
