Columbus police officer opens fire on car

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Police in Columbus were searching for a suspect after an officer opened fire at a car that was about to strike him.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the officer involved in the shooting late Wednesday on Enoch Drive wasn't hurt.

Police were checking hospitals for the occupant of the fleeing vehicle. Columbus police Maj. Gene Hillhouse said neither the driver nor the occupants in the vehicle had been located as of late Wednesday.

Police said the shooting stemmed from an officer investigating a home invasion.

Few other details were immediately available.
