NASHVILLE - Tennessee's modern tradition for the top names for new babies continued in 2013, with Emma and William taking the No. 1 spots for a third consecutive year as the most popular names given by new Volunteer State parents, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Health.

William has been the No. 1 name chosen for baby boys born in Tennessee for seven straight years.

Emma repeats as the most popular name for Tennessee baby girls after taking the top spot on the list in 2011, the news release states.

While the most popular names for both girls and boys born in 2013 in Tennessee remain largely unchanged from the previous year, a new name made its way into the top 10 list of both girls' and boys' names this year.

Elizabeth is a new addition to the 2013 list of Tennessee's most popular names for girls, replacing Chloe as the eighth most popular name.
