No. 8 Lady Vols expect 5 millionth fan Thursday

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee expects to reach the 5 million mark in all-time women's basketball attendance Thursday when the eighth-ranked Lady Vols host Mississippi.

The school announced Tuesday that only 3,796 fans need to attend Thursday's game to reach the 5 million plateau. NCAA spokesman Rick Nixon said it's a "safe assumption" that Tennessee would be the first school to reach the 5 million mark based on the Lady Vols' attendance history, but there isn't a way to officially verify that because the NCAA doesn't measure each school's all-time cumulative attendance.

Tennessee is averaging 11,286 fans per game this season and is on pace to lead the nation in attendance for an 11th straight year.

The fan designated as the five millionth visitor will receive prizes including a pair of 2014-15 season tickets.
