FLAT ROCK, Ala. - Sheriff's officials in northeast Alabama say a Georgia man accused of leaving his 5-year-old son alone in a car during a hunting trip is free on $500 bond.

Jackson County Sheriff's Lt. Rocky Harnen told AL.com that 29-year-old Brandon Mark Chambers, of Trenton, Ga., was charged with endangering a child.

Authorities say the boy was left alone in the car in Flat Rock and activated the vehicle's OnStar system when he got cold.

Harnen says when authorities arrived, the boy's father was still hunting and the car's thermometer gave a reading of 31 degrees.

Harnen says the boy was released to the custody of his step mother.

Flat Rock is about 65 mile east of Huntsville.
