Victim identified after fatal crash
BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. - The victim of a fatal head-on collision Thursday on Springplace Road in Bradley County has been identified as Kim Thompson, 53, of Cleveland.
The Bradley County Sheriff's Office said its traffic unit is investigating the crash that injured the driver of the other vehicle.
According to reports, Thompson was driving south in the 3300 block of Springplace Road when her vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a Kia van driven by Christina Moore, 41, of Cleveland.
Moore was treated at SkyRidge Medical Center for a leg injury.
Thompson was the first traffic fatality of 2014 in Bradley County, the sheriff's office news release stated.
Panel dismisses Tracy complaint
NASHVILLE - The state Registry of Election Finance has dismissed a complaint filed against state Sen. Jim Tracy over a pancake breakfast he held in 2012 for constituents.
The Tennessean reports the panel voted 4-0 on Wednesday after determining there was no evidence that Tracy misused campaign funds at the event.
The Shelbyville Republican announced 11 days after the event that he would run for the congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, a Republican from South Pittsburg.
Shelbyville resident James R. Moore filed the complaint, saying that he believed Tracy may have violated campaign finance reporting procedures by having the event shortly before launching his bid for Congress.
The event on Dec. 22, 2012, was billed as an opportunity to meet Tracy and donate to Toys for Tots.
Traffic stop yields $126,000
PANHANDLE, Texas - A traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle has yielded more than $126,000 in vacuum-sealed bundles and led to money laundering charges against a Georgia man.
The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday announced the seizure of the cash and the arrest of Martin Jay Paul, of Ball Ground, Ga. Investigators believe the cash in the drug-related investigation was bound for California.
Paul was driving an SUV on Interstate 40 near Conway, about 20 miles east of Amarillo, when he was pulled over Tuesday afternoon for a traffic stop. Officials said a trooper found bundles of cash, apparently bound for San Diego, hidden under the back seat and in the trunk.
Paul was freed Wednesday on $10,000 bond. Carson County Jail records did not list an attorney for him.
Donkey deaths focus of probe
CAIRO, Ga. - State officials plan to investigate the mysterious deaths of donkeys in separate areas of a South Georgia county.
WALB-TV reported that four donkeys were discovered dead in a two-week period in Grady County.
Michelle Hudson said she was hurt and confused after finding two of her nine pet donkeys dead on their property on New Year's Day.
Grady County Road Superintendent Steve Elkins said authorities have found at least three other donkeys dead in other parts of the county in recent days. He said those animals were found dead along Higden Road and along Cabin Lane.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture plans to quarantine Hudson's donkeys to determine what might have led to the deaths.
