Chattanooga wrestling Mocs fifth at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team put together a 4-1 weekend and finished fifth in the Virginia Duals.

The Mocs, who lost to host Virginia on Friday after winning their opening meet in the tournament, rebounded Saturday with consecutive wins over Lock Haven, Nebraska-Kearney and Rider for the fifth-place victory. The performance boosted their season dual-meet record to 10-5.

In that fifth-place meet, UTC won six of the 10 matches and earned bonus points in five of the six: technical falls from Mike Pongracz (141) and Scottie Boykin (197), a pin from heavyweight Dawson Peck and major decisions by Alex Hudson (157) and Corey Mock (165).

Peck, who enrolled at UTC last Monday after transferring from Virginia Tech, is 5-0 as a Moc.

Rider advanced to the fifth-place match with a 28-15 victory over The Citadel.

The Mocs are off until next Sunday, when they'll wrestle at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. They'll visit The Citadel on Jan. 22 before getting in their final home meet of the year Feb. 2 against Appalachian State.
