about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

It was refreshing to see someone accept responsibility and hold two people accountable and fire them. Obama has sworn to do the same on several occasions and has not held anyone accountable yet. It is doubtful that Christie or Hilary will be POTUS candidates.

Is a New Jersey turn pike traffic jam worse than a botched roll out of the AHA web site? Is it worse than targeting by the IRS? How does it compare to guns to the drug cartels or four deaths in Benghazi? The AG has ordered a federal investigation of the turn pike incident, why is this different than the other issues?

THE NEXT REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT

Tea baggers are determined to not allow Christy within a stack of pancakes of the republican nomination. Even Ann Coulter said she was done with him. It doesn't matter that he cut taxes for the rich and shifted a greater revenue burden onto the NJ poor and middle class. Doesn't matter that he vetoed 3 gun bills supported by a majority of NJ voters, including the .50 caliber rifle ban that Christy actually initiated. Doesn't matter that he's opposed to Planned Parenthood and birth control.

He won't get the nomination because he didn't shake his finger in President Obama's face. A golden opportunity to embarrass the President and establish gutter cred with tea baggers LOST, never to forgotten. Did you notice any GOP support after the Bridgegate bombshells? No. Christy is all alone in this. Heck, Rand Paul and Lindsay Graham are giddy as school girls.

Just the appearance of bipartisanship and/or compromise will kill anyone's chance for the GOP nomination, which begs the question:

If Christy doesn't get the 2016 nomination will there ever be another republican president?

THIS is what passes for "leadership" in the republican party. Yep, Christie's a prime example of the bullies that control that end of the political spectrum. Mayors in New Jersey say they're starting to consider foul play on behalf of the Christie administration in light of the George Washington Bridge lane closure controversy. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer says she had a face to face visit with Governor Christie in the Spring, when he asked her to endorse him for re-election. She told him she would be remaining neutral. She had applied for a Hazard Mitigation Grant to protect Hoboken from flooding. During Sandy, 80 percent of the city was under water. Zimmer says she asked the state for $100 million in grants. She got $300,000 — a fraction of 1 percent. In Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop recently disclosed that the Christie administration cancelled several meetings — the day after he refused to endorse the Governor. More Coincidence? In Elizabeth, Chris Bollwage, who has been the mayor for 21 years, says his city has gotten payback from Christie after its state legislators opposed several pieces of the Governor's legislation. The Governor's retribution was to close down the Division of Motor vehicles here in the city of Elizabeth, which is the fourth largest city in the state of New Jersey,” Bollwage said.

Yep. Some Americans are all about retribution. Retribution and holding people accountable is why this nation is in debt up to our eyeballs, and we are still in danger of retribution ourselves.

"Obama has sworn to do the same on several occasions and has not held anyone accountable yet."

Could that be because the fact of the matter is that there is no one who has done anything that dictates their firing?

How much time and money has been spent delving into these so-called Obama Administration scandals, and yet not one person has been indicted for wrong doing?

How much more time and money will be wasted before the Republicans give up the ghost?

"It is doubtful that Christie or Hilary will be POTUS candidates."

The fact of the matter is that the polls give those two the highest chances that they will be the ones to choose from. If not them, then who has any chance to emerge a front-runner?

"Is a New Jersey turn pike traffic jam worse than a botched roll out of the AHA web site?"

Nope, which is why it will not be news any longer in two weeks.

"Is it worse than targeting by the IRS?"

A charge that has went exactly nowhere except for Tea-Party sympathizers.

"How does it compare to guns to the drug cartels..."

The one man who is responsible has yet to see the insider of a courtroom, and it's not the man some have been trying to lyinch.

"or four deaths in Benghazi?"

Another time and money wasting persecution expedition which has went absolutely nowhere.

"The AG has ordered a federal investigation of the turn pike incident, why is this different than the other issues?"

Because there are people who apparently conspired to exact a certain amount of retribution, for whatever reason they felt they had to do so.

"Christie has no chance of winning in places like Iowa, or the south. Nobody in Iowa cares about his poll numbers in Jersey."

George Zimmerman is free today because the accusations against him were not proven to a conclusion.

The accusations against the Obama Administration are absolutely no different. If the Republicans can step up to the challenge of proving accusations with evidence that proves them, fine.

[A cache of about two dozen pages of emails and text messages blew the case wide open this week, but Jersey Democrats are about to release nearly 5,000 more.]

[Six New Jersey clients represented by attorney Rosemarie Arnold have filed a federal lawsuit against Christie, the state of New Jersey, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Bridget Anne Kelly, Bill Baroni, David Wildstein and others. It's the first civil claim over the lane-closure scandal, but in an interview with Arnold she said she has been inundated with other phone calls from people in New Jersey and believes the number of plaintiffs will grow, possible to the "tens of thousands." She wants it certified as a class-action lawsuit.]

[Christie says he awoke Wednesday morning, went to the gym and then got a call from an aide about a report in a New Jersey newspaper with the bombshell allegations about his aides.

He was "blindsided" and "shocked," saying it was all new to him.

Then came this revelation:

"I haven't had a lot of sleep the last two nights, and I've been doing a lot of soul-searching."

Two nights?

If Christie found out about the emails a day before he spoke to the media, what kept him up the first night?]

Sheesh! Well, at least we're not a litigious society!

Of course nothing has come out of the IRS scandal because the FBI has been dragging its feet. Now it is being reported the Department of Justice lawyer heading the investigation in the actions of IRS officials to aid Obama was herself a big contributor to Obama and that now, seven months after the conduct was made public, the FBI is just starting to question some of the affected tea party members.

"After seven months of no contact from federal investigators, a small number of our clients recently received a request for an interview from the FBI," said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law & Justice, which represents more than three dozen groups.

He said the clients were evaluating FBI's request but were troubled by the revelation of Ms. Bosserman's political leanings.

"This development creates a serious conflict of interest and raises more questions and doubts about the Obama administration's promise to get to the bottom of what happened," he said.

The IRS internal auditor found that the agency singled out tea party groups for intrusive scrutiny, with agency investigators asking questions about groups' reading lists, members' political affiliations and volunteer histories, and work with other tea party groups.

No question about that!

FUNNY......Barry comes back from his long holiday Hawaiian golf vacation mostly on the taxpayers dime and immediately restarts his Marxist class warfare rhetoric about income inequality! Lol! Part of the message he is spewing out is that guvment should provide everyone a job that does not have one. Is that not what the bankrupt U.S. Postal Service is for? He's no leader in any way outside of New Jersey. He has no national standing. All of you just like him because he kissed up to Obama. You believe that it's always incumbent on the GOP to reach out to Dems, and never the other way.

Polls in 2012 and 2013 mean nothing at all. Christie is toast. If the Republican elect a true conservative, which they won't because they're just Democrat Party wannabe's, then you'll have reason to fear. What will happen is that GOP will elect someone who is afraid of coming across as being mean by just being critical, and he'll lose.

You've anointed Christie the nominee alread because you know he can't win. Funny how liberals love deciding who the GOP nominee will be. They put their stamp of approval on them, then after they're nominated they attack them. Laughable and transparent.

Really?

"He's no leader in any way outside of New Jersey. He has no national standing."

You are woefully ignorant of what the polls say.

"All of you just like him because he kissed up to Obama. You believe that it's always incumbent on the GOP to reach out to Dems, and never the other way."

You re equally delusional. Obama came into office and he most certainly did try to work both sides of the aisle, and that came to a quick stop the second the Republican agenda consisted of seeing to it that he was a one-term prospect.

"Polls in 2012 and 2013 mean nothing at all. Christie is toast."

You wish, I'm sure.

"If the Republican elect a true conservative, which they won't because they're just Democrat Party wannabe's, then you'll have reason to fear."

That's the thing people like yourself will never, ever understand. The majority of this nation is not conservative, and they will never elect a conservative for President.

The only conservatives elected to any public office occur in pockets where conservatives dominate the landscape. You need to fear the damage that Republicans have done to themselves through their egg shell walking they have done around conservatives.

"What will happen is that GOP will elect someone who is afraid of coming across as being mean by just being critical, and he'll lose."

Unless someone emerges as willing to reach across the aisle, and who can prove it, any Republican nominee will lose.

"You've anointed Christie the nominee alread because you know he can't win."

Sir, unless you've had your head buried in the sand for the past several months, the polls have him leading Hillary at the moment, which is the opinion of the people of this nation...not just liberals.

Feel free to wallow in your own denial, if you must, but the truth is easy to find.

I'm sure that the President has balanced a checkbook at some point in his life, and still does, I'm sure.

Sir, no President can spend a dime without Congressional approval, so any charge that he, alone, is a "spendaholic" is falling on deaf ears, and aside from the two wars that he is trying to end, I have absolutely no issues with spending.

Five years ago, this nation tanked, big-time. Spending was necessary until revenues increased and people got back to work. We've come a long way since January of 2009, and that is an undeniable fact.

Do we still have more to do? Of course. But this nation is on the right track and all the naysayers can howl all they want, for all the good it will ever do.

"So why would I back someone like Obama who's much, much, much worse. It's illogical."

So long as you refuse to see that no President can spend a dime without Congressional approval and oversight, you're going to continue to blame the wrong party.

It's a problem that I do not suffer from. I live in the real world.

Sadly you do not have a concept of what the facts are. Take a look at what Obama's policies have done to the economy.

6.3 million: Net new jobs created since Obama's recovery started in June 2009 13.8 million: New jobs that would have been created had Obama's kept pace with the average of the previous 10 recoveries.

3.6%: Growth in private jobs since Obama took office. 43%: Growth in the number of temp jobs.

91.8 million: Number of people not in the labor force as of December. 525,000: Increase since November. 11.2 million: Increase since Obama took office.

6.7%: Jobless rate 54 months into Obama's recovery. 5.1%: Unemployment rate 54 months into George W. Bush's "jobless" recovery.

13.1%: Jobless rate in Dec. using a broader measure — U6 — which includes people marginally attached to labor force or working part time for economic reasons. 9.2%: Average U6 rate in Bush's eight years in office.

26%: Share of adults who say at least one household member is unemployed, based on IBD/TIPP Poll data. 10%: Share who say a household member had work hours cut because of ObamaCare.

3.9 million: Number of people who've been jobless 27 weeks or more in December. 2.7 million: That number when Obama took office.

37 weeks: Average length of unemployment in Dec. 20 weeks: Average length when Obama took office.

861,000: Number of discouraged workers in Dec. 734,000: Number when Obama took office.

58.6%: Current employment-to-population ratio. 61%: Ratio when Obama took office. 62%: Average employment-to-population ratio in the 30 years before Obama took office.

$1,006: Drop in median household income during the 2007-09 recession. $2,535: Drop in median income after the recession ended in June 2009, according to Sentier Research.

http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/011014-686041-counting-the-ways-obama-policies-have-failed-to-create-jobs.htm

"But the representatives you vote for are the good guys, right? It's every other politician who has that problem, right?"

If the representative I voted for is not doing the job they will not receive my vote in the future.

"That's what most of American thinks, isn't it?"

That isn't what you stated earlier anyway.

The issue you replied to was in regard to CONSERVATIVENESS.

I stated, with confidence, that conservatives constituted around a third of this nation, and that they would never rise to rule this nation.

That statement was not refuted by your reference to a majority of Republican Governors, because the fact of the matter is that those states are STILL out-voted.

rick1 wrote: "Sadly you do not have a concept of what the facts are. Take a look at what Obama's policies have done to the economy."

Hoo boy, this oughta be good...

"6.3 million: Net new jobs created since Obama's recovery started in June 2009 13.8 million: New jobs that would have been created had Obama's kept pace with the average of the previous 10 recoveries."

But Sir, this was not like all the other recessions. It was more like 1929, and very close to a full-blow depression, which as I recall off the top of my head, took about 10-15 years to recover from.

"3.6%: Growth in private jobs since Obama took office. 43%: Growth in the number of temp jobs."

Times are indeed tough, and it's going to take more time. See the above.

"91.8 million: Number of people not in the labor force as of December. 525,000: Increase since November. 11.2 million: Increase since Obama took office."

Yep...it's all true, if you count every single retired person, the disabled, and housewives to boot. It sounds bad, because it was made up.

"6.7%: Jobless rate 54 months into Obama's recovery. 5.1%: Unemployment rate 54 months into George W. Bush's "jobless" recovery."

A comparison of a near depression to a simple recession.

"13.1%: Jobless rate in Dec. using a broader measure — U6 — which includes people marginally attached to labor force or working part time for economic reasons. 9.2%: Average U6 rate in Bush's eight years in office."

"Broader measure." Translation: Made up off the top of someone's head, and most certainly a Republican.

"26%: Share of adults who say at least one household member is unemployed, based on IBD/TIPP Poll data. 10%: Share who say a household member had work hours cut because of ObamaCare."

Interesting, since the poll does not make any distinction as to whether the reported unemployed are adults, children, housewives, or students.

"3.9 million: Number of people who've been jobless 27 weeks or more in December. 2.7 million: That number when Obama took office...37 weeks: Average length of unemployment in Dec. 20 weeks: Average length when Obama took office. "

We hashed that out the other day. The day that I see no jobs listed in the newspaper, the day I say that there are no jobs for those who are truly seeking one.

"861,000: Number of discouraged workers in Dec. 734,000: Number when Obama took office."

There is no such person as a "discouraged worker." With little exception, if one desires to work, they CAN find a job.

"58.6%: Current employment-to-population ratio. 61%: Ratio when Obama took office. 62%: Average employment-to-population ratio in the 30 years before Obama took office."

Which can easily be explained by the start of the baby boomer retirement stats.

"You call yourself a reformed republican today but in the past you have called yourself a democrat. So what is it Al?"

I have never referred to myself as a Democrat.

"On April 14, 2013 at 12:36 a.m in a post you said you were "Liberal Democrat loving soul."..."

Loving the Democrats is still different than calling myself a Democrat. I am a reformed Republican. I will return when the Republicans right themselves.

And I stand by that as well. You don't know me. You have a name. How do you know it belongs to me? You don't know for sure, do you?

You only know what I dump into this forum. You judge me accordingly. But what do you KNOW for sure?

"You made that comment after you had identified yourself Ike and everyone else on here and said your friends call you jelly bean. Do you remember that Al?"

Yep. I sure do. Jellybean is a nickname by which I am known by all who do truly know me.

"Stop lying."

Uh...what lie could you possibly be referring to? You believe me to be a self-claiming Democrat. So the hell what? Your definitions are not necessarily my own.

"Reference my post at 1:20pm in your response you did not offer any evidence to dispute what I posted. You only offered your opinion."

You cut and pasted content related by someone else and you consider it accurate because it fits your anti-Obama narrative, written and hosted on a known anti-Obama website.

I don't have to refute it. I responded with what I deemed the response it deserved and offered certain facts that are now in your court to refute or to continue to ignore.

"The only reason the economy has not improved faster is because Obama made it into a depression with his economic policies just like FDR prolonged the recover in the 1930's"

Pure speculation and hogwash too. What policies? Can you specifically point out any policies that have specifically hampered the economy from recovering any faster?

Please...try to use your own words. Cutting and pasting is necessary sometimes, but doing it repeatedly is so disingenuous.

I could confirm or deny anything, but what does it prove in your mind, one way or the other. You know nothing for sure.

"Funny coming from the cut and paste pro of this form and you did not cite your source until you were called out on it sometime ago. At least I cite my sources."

I am hardly a cut and paste pro. I have in fact been using my own words for quite awhile now.

"Increased regulations, EPA regulations against fossil fuel companies, ObamaCare, Dodd Frank to name a few have hurt the recovery."

You consider what you wrote to be specific? I'l repeat my challenge to conform to your reply;

What SPECIFIC regulations, EPA regulations against fossil fuel companies, ObamaCare, etc. came straight from the President, so that he can be directly blamed for a delayed economy recovery?

Dodd-Frank is an entirely separate issue, non-related to this discussion, and again, not something that can be laid at the President's feet either, nor has it been responsible for economic stagnation.

Because if it were, Wall Street would not be humming at the moment, and as we all know, it is. Dodd-Frank had everything to do with imposing oversight on Wall Street and protecting consumers from scammers and thieves.

That part of economic disruption, we can all live without, unless of course, you are one of those who benefited from the robbery that Wall Street engaged in back in the late 2000's.

Just reported by the TFP:

"Three of four criminal charges were dropped this morning against University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student Cole Montalvo, who was wrestled to the ground by campus police and security officers on Nov. 13 after Montalvo crossed a “free speech” perimeter to question street preacher Angela Cummings.

Sessions Court Judge Gary Starnes dismissed charges of inciting to riot and disorderly conduct at an hour-long preliminary hearing. Before the hearing, a charge of obstruction of justice was dropped.

That leaves the biochemistry student facing a charge of resisting arrest, which will be decided at an upcoming jury trial."

Good to hear that the judge dismissed the inciting and disorderly charges and that the state dismissed the obstruction charge. If the state pursues the resisting charge, the jury should wonder how he could be guilty of resisting, since there was no cause to arrest.

Where is the secret in that? Everyone knows that ObamaCare was designed to bolster the profits of the insurers. However, the insurers know full and well that if they don't deliver, they are going to be out.

It's not going to happen overnight, but if ObamaCare takes root and is left alone to stay up and running for up to four years, like RomneyCare in Massachusetts, the cast majority of Americans will be pleased as punch.

Romneycare has an 80% approval rating by the inhabitants of Massachusetts. It will be similar across the nation, unless the Republicans get their way, and God help us all if that happens.

For the fact of the matter is that the Republicans have absolutely nothing to offer this nation to reform health care and it's a shame that some of you can't see it.

Was the launch botched? Yes, and so was the one designed for Medicare Part D. Where was the outrage back then?

It seems that some people only find themselves upset whenever a Democrat is in charge. It's become almost predictable and people are learning to yawn whenever it occurs.

The site seems to be working much better now, and there are bigger scandals to chase, so this one has slipped to the back burner, much to the disappointment of some, I'm sure.

al, are you referring to pt as "jack" because that's his name [you outed him to some degree?] or because pt doesn't know jack?

Those of us who have been around for a long time know that he used to post under his full name. That is his first name, and since he has found in necessary for some reason to use mine, I was just returning the favor.

al, I was hoping you [and several others] would quickly respond:

pt doesn't know jack!

In this case, not only does he know Jack. He's the Jack that no one wants to know.

I asked pt this question:

"I doubt that you give a direct question [my bad! should have answer] to this question, pt, but I ask you, nonetheless:

Why are the grades received by Mr. Obama in undergraduate or law school material to his eligibility or ineligibility for the office to which he has been twice elected?"

pt's response:

"You boys are silly." [and he did not claim that he could not give a direct question to a question.]

That's the most direct answer pt has ever given to a question.

pt, that was such a girlish answer, even for you.

Yaakov, the word "ilk" was used many times before you graced this forum. (B.Y.---before Yaakov). As for the redeemer's grades, I'm not too interested. But I would pay to see his entrance apps.

pt is so predictable. pt shows such utter disdain for al, but he has so much in common with what he claims al to be.

pt says it would be nice to know how Obama did in school.

pt says he's not too interested in Obama's grades. ["nice to know" but not interesting]

pt says he would pay to see Obama's entrance apps. ["not too interested," but worth paying for]

That is so "al as proclaimed by pt."

I guess you believe that any time a mistake is made, that employees deserve to be fired....point blank.

There is a big difference in making a mistake and incompetence. The stink around the web site is unnecessary and expensive many ways beyond the development money. Some people with experience volunteered to develop it free (Amazon, Apple types) but were told it did not fit their procurement process. In other words we can't show favorites and give them an opportunity to make a killing at taxpayers expense.

I would hope around 80% love it since that is about the number that will get a supplement. It is the biggest redistribution of wealth to date. The sad thing is the same result could have been achieved with half the increased cost.

Were any mistakes made in the issues you insist are not scandals? It does not have to be a crime to justify firm action by the person in charge.

fairmon also said "Some people with experience volunteered to develop it free (Amazon, Apple types) but were told it did not fit their procurement process." Do you have a link?
