Memphis teacher suspended after locking 5-year-old in closet

MEMPHIS - A Memphis teacher has been suspended after police said a 5-year-old girl was locked in a closet.

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows that a teacher at A.B. Hill Elementary locked the kindergarten student in a closet on Tuesday.

Police said the child was not harmed and the teacher was not at the school when police arrived. The child has not been identified by authorities.

Police and school officials are investigating. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Shelby County Schools says the teacher, whose name was not released, has been suspended.
