United Auto Workers chief Bob King has told a German newspaper he believes the union will be in Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant by June.

King told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that there's a "clear majority" of employees who want to be represented by the UAW and have signed appropriate declarations of intent." King's current term as UAW president ends in June. He said the UAW and VW work well.

"VW is very fair to deal with," he said. "The company wants its employees to have a voice"

The UAW said last year it has a majority of the nearly 2,000 rank and file who have signed cards seeking representation by the union. But anti-UAW workers have indicated they've got more than 600 employees who have signed petitions saying they don't want a union.

The company could voluntarily approve the union, or the UAW could call for a vote by employees.
