The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Southern Conference win streak is back to double-digits following Sunday's 35-6 victory at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
It was their 10th straight conference victory.
"It was a good win. Again, I thought we got after it at all spots," coach Heath Eslinger said.
The Mocs, ranked 23rd nationally, won eight of the 10 bouts in securing their 24th conference victory against one loss in the Eslinger era. They're now 11-5 overall this year with a four-match win streak and a 2-0 SoCon record.
SIUE won at 125, Dakota Leach besting Patrick Smith 9-6, and at 285, David Devine scoring a 7-5 overtime victory against Dawson Peck. It was the first loss of Peck's career at UTC. The freshman, who was 8-2 while wrestling unattached last semester, began his Mocs career with five straight wins at the Virginia Duals Jan. 11-12.
UTC was close to running on all cylinders, picking up extra team points in six of their eight wins including back-to-back pins from Levi Clemons (174) and John Lampe (184). Corey Mock (165) had a technical fall and Nick Soto (133), Mike Pongracz (141) and Alex Hudson (157) scored major decisions.
"Levi looked really good, Soto looked really good and Mock got a technical fall," Eslinger said.
Meanwhile, freshman Scottie Boykin (197) became the fifth Moc to secure a 15-win season (15-11). Clemons has 17, Hudson 21, Moc 22 and Soto 25.
The Mocs have now won five straight against the Cougars dating back to 1988. They'll get little in the way of rest as they go back on the road for a Wednesday evening meet at The Citadel, which was a 25-9 winner over Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon.
