NEWNAN, Ga. - The owner of a gun store in western Georgia said thieves rammed a car through one of the walls of his shop and stole an estimated $70,000 worth of high-powered rifles.
Surveillance footage at AR Bunker in Newnan showed that it took thieves less than a minute to jump from a car and steal multiple guns before fleeing the scene early Sunday morning.
Store owner Rusty Morris told WSB-TV that he plans to reopen as soon as possible and he expects repairs to his damaged storefront to be finished Sunday.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Forsyth County sheriff's officials said a Gainesville man died in a tree-trimming accident.
The Forsyth News reported that Jose Luiz Martinez, 39, died after falling about 40 feet to the ground Saturday.
County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Simmons said Martinez wasn't wearing safety equipment. He said Martinez was part of a four-person crew and none of his co-workers saw him fall.
ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. - Students in the Hawkins County school system will be able to see a nurse practitioner and get diagnosed with an illness or injury via a live computer feed.
The Kingsport Times-News reported that it's part of new technology being introduced into the school system.
The telemedicine program will feature the same kind of equipment found in a doctor's office, except it uses a live video feed to transfer images to nurse practitioners or a doctor.
The technology features a Bluetooth stethoscope that syncs with the stethoscope used on a student, so the nurse practitioner can hear the sounds of the child's heartbeat.
Hawkins County has two sets of equipment for the telemedicine, each costing $8,000. Officials hope federal grant money will pay for telemedicine equipment for 17 other schools.
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - State Department of Transportation crews will be at work this week in North Georgia.
Workers will be trimming overgrown vegetation on State Route 3 in Catoosa County, SR 2 in Gilmer County, routes 136 and 225 in Gordon County and SR 201 in Whitfield County, according to a GDOT news release.
Other crews will be sealing cracks in the roadway surface on SR 58 in Dade County, the release stated.
Work is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today through Thursday, weather permitting.
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - Police in suburban Birmingham said a wrong-way driver on Interstate 65 has died in a crash that left two others injured.
Authorities said the crash shut down the freeway's northbound lanes for nearly three hours on Sunday morning. Police told WBRC-TV that a silver Honda sedan driving in the wrong direction crashed head-on with another sedan.
Authorities said the Honda's driver died at the scene. The driver of the other car was taken to UAB Hospital, and a third driver who crashed was taken to Brookwood Hospital and has been released.
