Volkswagen of America today named Mark Barnes to the post of vice president of sales for the Volkswagen brand, effective Feb. 1.

In this role, Barnes, 54, will direct the activities of the U.S. sales regions, retail programs and fleet and remarketing. Barnes will report to Mark McNabb, chief operating officer of Volkswagen of America.

"We are excited to welcome Mark back to the Volkswagen team," said McNabb in a statement. "Mark's in-depth automotive experience, particularly in sales and U.S. dealer relations, will help continue to build our partnerships as we work towards future growth in this market."

Barnes most recently served as vice president of sales, marketing and after sales for General Motors' international operations. Prior to that, Barnes served in a number of senior roles including vice president of customer experience and other leadership positions at Volkswagen of America.

He also was director of Chrysler's U.S., Western Region Business Center, and vice president of national sales at Hyundai North America.

Frank Trivieri, who was executive vice president of sales for Volkswagen of America since 2011, recently left VW.
