GA crews to reunite drivers with abandoned vehicles

ATLANTA - Crews say they plan to use four-wheel-drive vehicles to take motorists to more than 2,000 vehicles abandoned during the snow and ice storm so they reclaim them.

State officials say they will have fuel available for vehicles that ran out of gas. They're also creating a database to help motorists locate vehicles that were towed.

Two staging areas for the effort opened this morning at a church and a transit station.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said a survey by the Georgia State Patrol during the overnight hours on Wednesday identified an estimated 2,029 abandoned vehicles on metro Atlanta highways.

The survey counted vehicles on area interstates and Georgia 400.
