GALLATIN, Tenn. - A Sumner County judge has denied a retrial for a Hendersonville woman convicted of smothering her newborn twins.

Lindsey Lowe was sentenced last year to at least 51 years in prison after she was convicted of felony murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse. On Friday, Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay refused to grant a new trial.

John Pellegrin, one of Lowe's attorneys, said she is going to appeal Gay's decision. He said defense attorneys alleged 27 errors during Lowe's trial last year. They felt like police didn't properly tell Lowe of her Miranda rights. They also felt like statements she made to police should not have been admitted at trial.

Sumner County District Attorney General Ray Whitley called the case one of the saddest he's ever prosecuted.
