Morristown, TN man dies after being impaled by pole during crash

A 24-year-old Morristown man died in surgery Wednesday after he was impaled by a metal pole that went through his seat in a single-vehicle crash.

Gerald C. Bryan died after the 1:04 a.m. crash on Fish Hatchery Road near the interchange with Interstate 81, according to a report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Brad Robbins.

Bryan was the only occupant of a 1999 Toyota Corolla while traveling west on Fish Hatchery Road in Hamblen County. The speed limit is 45 mph on that stretch of road.
