The body of an unidentified black male was found under a bridge at 760 Workman Road on Saturday evening.
A local resident citizen came across the body and called Chattanooga Police at 5:23 p.m. The person who reported the find is not believed to be a suspect or in any way involved with the body found, Chattanooga police said.
"At this point we are unable to tell exactly what happened to him and what his mechanics of injury are, whether he was actually attacked or fell from the bridge," said Capt. David Woosley, with the Chattanooga Police Department. "We are waiting for the medical examiner to take a look before we make a discernible ruling."
Woosley said police could not confirm whether the dead man was Steven Bell, a local resident who was reported missing Thursday.
About 20 people lined up on the sidewalk outside of the Hobby Lobby on Gunbarrel Road on Saturday morning to protest the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Monday regarding contraception provisions of the Affordable Care Act .
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of Hobby Lobby, saying that the government cannot force certain closely held corporations with religious owners to provide several forms of contraceptives for their female employees.
Patricia Bazemore, with Move to a.m.end, organized the protest and said was happy about the number of people who ca.m.e out to support.
Bazemore said, "over several dozen people ca.m.e to protest, and some people were driving by when they decided to stop and show their support."
Officials with the Hobby Lobby store were unable to comment.
Chattanooga fire investigators are looking into how fireworks touched off a late night blaze that torched a house.
Fire officials said the blaze started at about 11 p.m. Friday when the owner of vacant house heard the noise of fireworks before looking outside and seeing the home next door on fire.
Willis Brown told WRCB-TV the house sustained $10,000 in damage and needs significant repairs before it will be livable again.
Brown said he heard people talking and yelling before seeing the flames.
Fire officials were still investigating Saturday afternoon.
