Police say a man tried to carjack a woman at knifepoint in the parking lot of the East Ridge Food Lion store on July 3.

It happened around 6:40 a.m.

The victim was a store employee who was waiting in her vehicle before entering the store to begin her shift, according to a news release from the police department.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Jeffrey Clark of Graysville, Tenn.

Police say he entered the victim's vehicle and demanded her car keys while threatening her with a knife. The woman activated the horn of her vehicle, attracting the attention of the grocery store manager. He confronted Clark and yelled for him to stop.

Clark fled the area on foot, and the manager followed him in his vehicle, according to the release. Police took Clark into custody at the intersection of Belvoir Avenue and Belvoir Crest Drive.

Clark was charged with carjacking and was issued a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in East Ridge City Court tomorrow.
