Former East Hamilton assistant coach Carrie Hill has been promoted to head coach for the Lady Hurricanes soccer team.

Hill, a 2004 graduate of Arts & Sciences, went back and assisted at her alma mater for a year before taking over the boys' job in the spring of 2011. She then moved to East Hamilton and assisted for the past three seasons under John Millard, who resigned in the spring to take a leadership position at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin.

Hill will be inheriting a young club that finished 9-7-1 and lost 1-0 to Cleveland in the District 5-AAA semifinals. One of its top players, Nicole Ford, tore her ACL in a preseason scrimmage and was lost for the 2013 season. She'll be back, as will a bevy of other players who should make the Lady Hurricanes one of the top teams in the district.

Hill has not hired an assistant yet.

"I'm excited and thrilled for the opportunity," she said Tuesday. "I'm definitely sad to see John go -- he and I struck a good balance in terms of coaching style and how we worked together -- but the girls are geared up for the season and I think there will be a good, smooth transition into the fall."

East Hamilton will start the 2014 season with lights on the field for the first time. The team started playing on the field in 2012 and had a scoreboard added last season.

Robinson to Heritage

Former Covenant College player Desiree Robinson has taken over for Stacy Dunfee as the girls' soccer coach at Heritage High School in Ringgold.

Dunfee stepped down to spend more time with family. Her 2014 team went 9-4-2, falling to Carrollton in the first round of the Georgia Class AAAA playoffs. The team was 42-7-2 during her three years as coach, advancing to the state semifinals in the spring of 2013. Her husband, Mike, is the head baseball coach at Gordon Lee.

Robinson, who plays for the Chattanooga Football Club women, will be teaching math at Heritage. She returns a solid core of young talent for the spring of 2015.

Attempts to reach Robinson on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
