Woodmen of World deliver Christmas in July to hospital

What: Members of Woodmen of the World chapters 1110, 879, 875, 70 and 6 partnered to deliver 25 DVD players, 100 DVDs, and 2,500 toys to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital on July 1. Hospital officials called it "Christmas in July."

Youth members of Woodmen of the World chapters, led by Taylor England of Chapter 1110, planned the project and collected donations with adults throughout May and June, according to Regina White of Sparta, Tenn. Their goal was to collect 125 toys, but they concluded the drive with more than 2,500 toys collected and $2,000 in cash, which was used to purchase the DVDs and players as well as baby items. It total, their donation surpassed $3,000 says Norman Shock of Athens, Tenn.


Star-Spangled Supper celebrates the Fourth at CTC

What: About 250 fans of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre and Chattanooga Symphony & Opera gathered in the community theater's lobby for a barbecue dinner prior to the CSO's patriotic pops concert in Coolidge Park on July 3. Star-Spangled Supper guests dined on barbecue from Sugar's, cakes from Bi-Lo and Clumpies Ice Cream before moving to the CTC patio and lawn to enjoy the concert and fireworks finale. Guests were entertained with a performance of "Can You Hear the People Sing?" by the cast of "Les Miserables," which is the current MainStage production at the theater.
