Woman hit by car on East 23rd Street in Chattanooga

A small memorial where a woman was killed on East 23rd Street.

A woman trying to cross the road on foot was struck and killed by a vehicle in Chattanooga Saturday.

Police responded to 2119 East 23rd Street around 4 p.m.

Police say the driver was unable to avoid hitting 24-year-old Ashley Ward and immediately stopped to help.

Ward was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

An investigation is ongoing.
