UTC Mocs' golfer Agathe Sauzon wins French tourney — and more Chattanooga region sports news

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golfer Agathe Sauzon won the 64th Grand Prix des Landes this past weekend in Hossegor, France. It was supposed to be four rounds but was shortened to 36 holes because of heavy rains, and Sauzon came from six shots behind to win at 140 with a 66 in her second round. Incoming UTC freshman Cristina Perez tied for 11th at 144. This was Sauzon's fourth event since returning to her home country for the summer, and she tied for fourth and for 13th in others. Another Moc back home, Isabella Loza, finished second in a pro event in Colombia, and DeeDee Russell tied for seventh in the New South Wales Junior Championship this month in Australia.

Football

• Tusculum College junior receiver Justin Houston from Bradley Central High School is a Beyond Sports Network preseason second-team All-American for 2014. The 5-foot-8, 180-pounder was a BSN third-team All-American in 2013 after setting Pioneers single-season records with 110 receptions, 1,347 receiving yards and 1,914 all-purpose yards. His receptions total was the second most in South Atlantic Conference history. He had more than 100 receiving yards in nine of his 10 games, and he set another school record with a 99-yard kickoff return against Wingate. He also was a Capital One Academic all-district first-team.

Rowing

• Chattanooga's Lookout Rowing Club fared very well against mostly bigger clubs in the USRowing Club National Championships this past weekend in Oak Ridge. Lookout's women's quad of Siobhan Duff, Rachel Brimer, Bailey Wood and Allison Colberg finished second, edging the New York Athletic Club for the silver medal, and the women's four of Wood, Marissa Bell, Duff, Colberg and coxswain Ashby Graham were fifth in their final against crews from Wisconsin, Minnesota and the national team development camp. The LRC's Anders Swanson and David Hall were another silver-medal crew, barely beaten by a Los Angeles duo in men's lightweight double, and the Lookout men's heavyweight double of Josh Johnston and Isaiah McDaniel were sixth in therir final. There almost 1,400 entries in the five-day event.

Basketball

• Covenant College seniors Ryan Burns and Nate Frierson were announced Monday as members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches' 2013-14 Honors Court, recognizing their academic achievements. Both were USA South all-academic selections. Burns is a philosophy major with a business minor, and Frierson is a history major who averaged 7.8 points a game in his junior season.

Weightlifting

• Former Baylor School and Alabama swimmer Elle St. Charles competed this past weekend in the 2014 U.S. National Olympic Weightlifting Championships in Salt Lake City and placed 15th out of 36 in her division.
