The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team is the preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference according to both the media and coaches poll, which were announced today.
The Mocs also have the conference’s preseason offensive and defensive Player of the Year choices with junior quarterback Jacob Huesman and two-time All America defensive lineman Davis Tull.
It is the first time since 1982 that UTC has been picked first in preseason balloting. Furman and Samford, who shared last season’s conference title with UTC, finished tied for second in the coaches preseason poll and were second and third according to the media.
The Mocs placed four players on the SoCon first-team offense — Huesman, running back Keon Williams, lineman Synjen Herren and tight end Faysal Shafaat, while Tull was the lone first-team defender.
