MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A Montgomery County Detention Facility officer has resigned after being charged with having sex with an inmate.
The inmate was identified Thursday as Desmonte Leonard, who faces capital murder and other charges in the killings of two former Auburn University football players. WSFA-TV reports that the officer, Shemarra Montgomery, was arrested this week and charged with custodial sexual misconduct.
Her husband, Curtis Montgomery, also was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution. Authorities say he lied to officers who came to the couple's home to arrest Shemarra Montgomery.
Both have been released from jail on bond.
