Written an opera? Artisti Affamati wants to hear it

Artisti Affamati, a musical troupe devoted to the performance and preservation of opera in Chattanooga, has set Saturday, Nov. 1, as the deadline for its Chamber Opera Competition.

This year, the company is presenting a new work by local composer Tim Hinck. Next year, the plan is to choose two new works to perform. So if you've written an opera, they want to hear it.

The two winning submissions will be scheduled for performance in their entirety in Artisti Affamati's 2015-16 season.

The application fee is $45.

All submissions will be reviewed by a five-member panel of judges: two representatives of Artisti Affamati, two regional composers and an independent professional instrumentalist.

Four works will be chosen as semifinalists, and they will be given sing-throughs by Artisti Affamati staff. Then two of the four will be chosen as the operas to be cast and performed.

Complete submission requirements may be found at www.artistiaffamati.com.
