1 dead, 5 hurt in shooting in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE - Authorities say one person was killed and five other people were injured in an early morning shooting in Knoxville.

Media reports say a shooting call came into Knox County dispatch at about 3 a.m. Saturday. The shooting took place in the Cumberland Avenue strip area, known for its bars and nightlife.

The person who died in the shooting has not been identified by police. Authorities say five other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police have charged 35-year-old Marquail Patterson, of Knoxville, with one count of first degree murder and four counts of attempted first degree murder.

Police said there are no other suspects wanted in connection with the shooting.
